Hitwise offers iGoogle gadget for UK retail industry

Hitwise, Google UK, The Retail Bulletin, and other retail industry partners have launched a set of iGoogle(TM) gadgets for retail professionals in the UK. Google gadgets are mini-applications offering a wealth of free information to retail professionals. They are presented on a single web page, appearing as a tab on an iGoogle homepage. Trade, research, and media partners include Verdict Research, Comscore, Thomson Intermedia, the IAB, EIAA, the ISP, InternetRetailing.net, and Retail Week.

Peter Fitzgerald, Industry Leader, Retail, Google UK described the retail industry gadgets as a way for leading trade and media companies to supply retail professionals with news on demand in a real-time, efficient and customizable format which will add real value day-to-day.

For example, The Retail Bulletin and Google designed three gadgets which deliver news, jobs, and video vox pops to help marketing professionals connect with consumers. Editor of Retail Bulletin, Mark Higgins, said, "The combination of all the news and information sources on one page - which can be personalized - is a fantastic tool for retailers. We're delighted to be supplying three news sources to the project and look forward to supporting it in the long term."

The Hitwise UK gadget, Hitwise Shopping and Classifieds Data Center, provides insight on the top UK retail search terms and websites. Hitwise will feature a new category each month.

Meanwhile, the Verdict Research Innovative Product Gallery gadget offers overviews of a selection of innovative and unusual consumer products from various parts of the world.

Google's own retail gadgets included on the tab include Google Optimization Tips and Advertiser Success Stories by Google.

In the launch release, Renaud Besnard, B2B Marketing, Google UK, said, "It is critical for Google to be actively involved with a leading media outlet such as the Retail Bulletin, which has been very proactive in helping us to prepare exciting content for retail marketing professionals. This is in keeping with our mission to make information universally accessible and useful, as well as driving value for online marketers."
