The 451 Group adds two analysts in Europe

The 451 Group has announced the addition of two analysts to its European team. Andy Lawrence joins The 451 Group as Research Director for Eco-Efficient IT; John Barr joins as Research Director, Financial Markets and Head of EU Research. The expansion follows the October appointment of Matthew Aslett as an analyst with the Enterprise Software practice.

Commenting on all three additions, Martin McCarthy, CEO of The 451 Group, said, "We are close to wrapping up another year of record growth in 2007 -- with the introduction of new services, the 451 online store, a growing client base and many new employees. All of these activities help to enhance our position as one of the leading independent voices on innovation in the technology business."

Andy Lawrence has joined as Research Director for Eco-Efficient IT at The 451 Group. He has been studying, analysing and writing about the IT industry for more than 20 years in a career as an award-winning journalist and technology publisher. Before joining The 451 Group, he was co-founder and editorial director of Infoconomy, publishers of Information Age magazine. Prior to that, Andy was the editorial director of ComputerWire, a global IT news service. He was also the founding editor of Computer Business Review magazine, where he pioneered critical, in-depth business coverage of the IT industry.

John Barr has been appointed as Research Director, Financial Markets and Head of EU Research at The 451 Group, covering IT early adoption and innovation in the financial markets. He is also responsible for The 451 Group's research activities within the European Commission Framework Program. John has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, initially writing compilers and development tools for HPC platforms. The bulk of his career has been spent in a variety of technical roles for systems vendors -- such as Meiko, Convex, SGI, Sun and Intel -- supporting their technical compute and HPC customers.

John is also active in many industry organisations. He was co-author of the DTI-sponsored “Unlocking the Grid”; he sits on the Advisory Board of the Grid Computing Now! Knowledge Transfer Network; he is the driving force behind the Open Grid API for Financial Markets initiative; and is the Chairman of the British Computer Society’s Parallel Processing Specialist Group. John has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of St. Andrews.
